Breaking Down Barriers Radio Show is taking on a new project. We have a Governor in Texas that is wheelchair bound. Yet, we also have no funding by Texas Medicaid for adult orthotics or prosthetics. There is not a safety net for the physically challenged people of Texas unless they are able to work. Surely this Governor could entertain a petition to change the coverage by Medicaid for this small population. Join with Breaking Down Barriers in championing this cause. This is just a beginning. Please let us know you hear us and are willing to join us, (no matter where you reside), as we prepare a petition and enlist the many advocates we know. Keep checking back to see what’s new in fighting for this cause. We need your help!!!! Please review the following petition and send us your comments and review. We will be going live with this petition soon. Petition to the State of Texas To broaden Medicaid for the coverage for Orthotic and Prosthetic Devices
We the people of the State of Texas formerly petition and request that the State of Texas broaden Medicaid coverage to include the coverage of Orthotic and Limb Prosthetic Devices for patients over the age of 21. Texas is only one of two states in the United States that does not provide coverage for orthotic and prosthetic devices (with the exception of Breast Prosthesis and patients under the age of 21 who require such devices). In addition, a study commissioned and released by the Amputee Coalition of America and released publicly on August 27, 2013, makes the cost-effective case for O&P intervention and proves that “Mobility Saves”. Therefore the undersigned urge the State of Texas to expand Medicaid to provide for Orthotic and Prosthetic Coverage to any resident of the State of Texas over the age of 21.
